The people of this country deserve the right to elect their own Supreme Court Judges, just as they have the right to vote for all other governmental officials. Laws are made to protect our democracy and the rights of American people.
The judges making the law must represent all the people and therefore should be appointed by the people.
The power of the president to appoint Supreme Court judges must be abolished to preserve its integrity and independence from the Executive Office of government.
The people should elect federal court judges based on their values and concerns, not those exclusively of a single person who happens to be the President.
Elections for Supreme Court Judges could be held by each state. Congress would screen elected State judges and two selected candidates would be voted upon. Senate would take a final vote to choose the next Supreme Court Judge.
I obviously acknowledge the former suggestion that this all could work out so easily is ridiculous, however I believe it could be done for the sake of justice to all citizens of this nation. The law affects our lives in every way. We must have the right to determine which Supreme Court Judges will best serve our futures. As the law stands, only our president has the right to choose a Supreme Court Judge, which is absurd.
Presidents pick federal judges that promote their ideology. Trump’s Alt-Right ideology is in conflict with the ideology of the majority of American citizens. Supreme Court Judges and all federal judges should not have ideologies inconsistent with the majority of its citizens. Neil Gorsuch is an example of a Supreme Court Judge appointed by President Trump whose ideology leans far to the right. Do not expect him to rule in favor of abortion if Roe vs. Wade if brought up for judicial debate.
Trump presently will do everything in his vast power to appoint another strictly an alt-right conservative onto the bench for life. Roe vs. Wade will be abolished and Citizens vs. United will never be reversed, among with all the rights American’s have gained over the last forty years.
Life appointments are ridiculous in this day and age. Appointments should be for a reasonable time period. Change is happening so fast in all aspects of our lives that it is unrealistic to appoint a Supreme Court Judge for more than eight years. A presidents turn is eight years, so why shouldn’t it be the same for judges on the Supreme Court.
The people of this country deserve the right to elect their own federal court judges, just as they have the right to vote for all other governmental officials. Laws are made to protect our democracy and the rights of American people. The judges making the law must represent all the people and therefore should be appointed by the people.
