Voting in the U.S.A.

It is a fact that Russia interfered with the 2016 presidential election and is still using propaganda to influence American citizens in their political decisions. Screen Shot 2018-07-07 at 2.44.44 PMTrump and his Republican administration have done nothing to stop this assault on our nation and do not have the political motivation to do so. It is clear that morality, truth, and justice take a back seat to politics within Trump’s Republican base.

Laws should be enacted to ensure proper response from government when attacked by an adversarial nation. Imagine if our nation was physically attacked by Russia and we did nothing in response. Harmful anti-democratic rhetoric is extremely dangerous and insidious. It can be hidden in subtle ways, especially on the Internet. Minds can be molded into believing autocracy is better than democracy and that racism is better than tolerance. Harmful propaganda started the wave of Nazi Germany. To believe this couldn’t happen in the United States is foolish.

Electoral College must be abolished. Perhaps it worked well during the early years of our country; however is totally unacceptable for our generation.

Gerrymandering for political advantage is corrupt and should be abolished. Every person’s vote should count.

A special national holiday should be enacted for presidential elections to ensure everyone can make it to the ballots. No one should have to work on this day. Many people know how hard it is to get away from work to vote. If everyone’s vote was counted and they had a day off to vote, more people would vote. I can’t think of a better way to ensure the integrity of everyone’s right to vote for his or her leaders.

All states should develop identical voting apparatuses in compliance with federal law. States should not be involved in deciding how people should be voting for their leaders. Differences between states on voting laws are confusing and difficult to monitor, especially after being attacked by a hostile regime. Uniform federal voting laws would streamline voting analysis and facilitate inspections for compliance. Uniformity with regard to voting in America will make surveillance of improprieties or foreign sabotage much easier.
